A fruitful meeting I must say, with OC Benjamin Tan and Chief Syaiful of the B3 Institution of the Singapore Prisons Services. We were reviewing the feedback for our pilot runs of the Fathering BootCamp Program @Prisons that was specifically design for the fathers in the Drug Rehabilitation Center (DRC) who are on short stay.
The collaboration between B3 Institution and the volunteers at BapaHebatSG goes back several years when we used to run Fathering Journey Programs (12 months and 6 months) reaching up to 100 fathers.
This specific collaboration (Fathering BootCamp Program) started early this and we had the first meeting in February 2023 to understand the changing the needs of the B3 Institution that was undergoing restructuring.
In late March we met again to review BapaHebatSG 's proposal of Fathering BootCamp Program.
It was accepted by B3 Institution and we arranged to pilot 2 runs in July 2023. A total of 18 fathers attended with very positive feedback.
In September 2023 another batch will start.......supporting the fathering journey continues.
===============================================================
BapaHebatSG has introduced the Fathering BootCamp Program, an initiative designed to facilitate the reintegration of incarcerated fathers with their children and families.
This program utilizes the Solution Focused Methodology, offering a structured and supportive approach to help fathers rebuild relationships and develop effective fathering skills.
The program consists of six sessions spread over two months, followed by four sessions of a Fathering Support Group. As of August 2023, two pilot runs of the program have been completed, and the feedback from the 18 participating fathers has been very positive.
Program Objectives:
Equip fathers with essential fathering knowledge, skills and strategies.
Foster positive behavior change in both communication and relationship building.
Best hopes plans and actions for fathers to reconnect with their children and families.
Program Components:
Solution Focused Methodology: The program is rooted in the Solution Focused Methodology, which emphasizes identifying and building upon participants' strengths and solutions rather than focusing on problems.
Six Session Program: The program spans over two months, with six structured sessions that cover various aspects of fatherhood, communication, and relationship-building.
Fathering Support Group: Following the initial six sessions, participants join a Fathering Support Group (fathering Circle), providing ongoing support, camaraderie, and a platform for sharing experiences.
Pilot Runs and Feedback:
Two pilot runs of the Fathering BootCamp Program were successfully completed in August 2023.
A total of 18 incarcerated fathers participated in these pilot runs.
Participants have provided very positive feedback through pre and post-workshop assessments, emphasizing a sense of personal growth. They have noted a clear and small but tangible impact on their lives as they absorb new knowledge, apply it in practice, and witness the small visible improvements in their relationships.
Next Steps:
BapaHebatSG is committed to expanding the Fathering BootCamp Program to reach more incarcerated fathers and their families.
Continuous assessment and improvement of the program based on participant feedback and outcomes.
The Fathering BootCamp Program represents a significant step in supporting incarcerated fathers' journey towards reintegration with their families and becoming more engaged, responsible, and effective parents. BapaHebatSG remains dedicated to its mission of strengthening father-child relationships and creating small positive change within families affected by incarceration.
