Tehtarik with Dads 3: The Bird and the Bees. Part 2

Updated: Sep 7

On Saturday, 30 August 2025, BapaHebatSG hosted the second instalment of our Teh Tarik with Dads series: The Birds & The Bees Part 2 – Teach Like a Pro & Love Like One Too! Held at The Foundry, the event drew 25 fathers and spouses who came eager to explore a topic often left unspoken but deeply vital: intimacy, love, and guiding children in a sexualised world.

A Safe Space for Honest Conversations

Moderated by our volunteer, Hadi Salleh, the session created a warm, respectful environment where participants could learn and ask questions anonymously. Our guest panellists, Osman Sidek and Enon Mansor, authors of Sex, Soul & Islam, shared Prophetic wisdom on couple intimacy and parenting strategies for teaching sexuality with Islamic values.

What set this session apart was the balance between frankness and faith. Participants appreciated the candid, clear way sensitive issues were addressed—grounded in Quranic verses and Hadith, yet deeply relevant to modern family life.

Key Takeaways for Couples and Parents

The discussion highlighted several themes:

  • Couple Intimacy, the Prophetic Way – Sex is not taboo in Islam but a form of sadaqah (charity) when approached lawfully

  • The Lovemaking Pyramid – Beyond physical intimacy, lasting connection is built through daily affection, communication, and playfulness—echoing the Prophet’s encouragement for “a messenger between spouses: kissing and words of love”

  • Parenting Through the Six Phases – From toddlerhood to adulthood, parents have the responsibility to model modesty, set boundaries, and use teachable moments to explain sexuality in age-appropriate ways. This includes instilling M-D-B values (Modesty, Decency, Boundaries) and helping children understand that “my body is my amanah”

  • Navigating Today’s Challenges – Participants also discussed real-world issues such as cyber influence, pornography, and peer culture. The speakers reminded fathers and mothers to be proactive, empathetic, and the first safe space their children can turn to.

Participant Reflections

The 25 attendees engaged actively, raising questions around marital intimacy, parenting anxieties, and practical strategies for talking to children. Many shared how liberating it was to finally address these issues openly within an Islamic framework. Couples left encouraged to strengthen their own bonds while also becoming better guides for their children.

A Step Forward in Fatherhood Conversations

This session reaffirmed that healthy conversations about intimacy and sexuality are part of building strong families and resilient communities. By drawing on the Prophetic tradition, fathers and mothers can embrace these topics with confidence, compassion, and clarity.

BapaHebatSG is grateful to our panellists Osman and Enon, to our moderator Hadi, and to every father and spouse who made time to join us. May these conversations continue at home, shaping a new generation grounded in love, mercy, and faith.
